There are many ways to earn United Airlines MileagePlus miles. You can book flights, own a credit card that allows you to accrue miles and points, book hotels with participating programs, and more. Aside from those common methods, you can also earn MileagePlus miles through other travel arrangements such as car rentals. United has recently partnered with Hertz and its brands to increase earning potential for members of both groups. United MileagePlus members can now earn miles by renting a car from Hertz, or utilizing one of their many transportation services.
MileagePlus miles can be earned on any included rental at Hertz locations around the world, and booking a flight is not required in order to earn the miles. The transportation company has 11,555 worldwide locations, making the possibilities for earning vast. As with any benefits, you must always use your account number when arranging the rental or service, and ask about the offers.
As of 2014, MileagePlus members can gain as much as 1,250 miles for qualifying rentals, and 500 miles for any Hertz rental. MileagePlus Chase Cardmembers earn 750 miles on rentals. Premier Silver and Gold members gain even more with 1,000 miles for a rental, and Premier Platinum and 1K account holders earn 1,250. Customers can also save up to 40% with a special discount code. Occasionally, Hertz will offer other specials on more specific rentals.
In early 2015, MileagePlus Global Services, Premier Platinum, and Premier 1K account holders, and MileagePlus Club and Presidential Plus Card account members can have complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. The benefits of this are access to full-size, four-door transportation rentals in the United States and Canada, as long as you reserve the car 48 hours in advance. You also have access to a single car class upgrade at eligible locations in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. MileagePlus Premier members and cardmembers can register and receive free Hertz Gold Plus Rewards elite status.
Hertz’s other rental brands—Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental—offer earning potential of 50 miles every day of one-to-four day qualifying rentals. You can also gain 500 miles for rentals exceeding five days.
Ground transportation also offers possible earning benefits through Hertz and United. GroundLink’s car service offers affordable rates and 200 miles per each ride with the service. SuperShuttle provides 50 miles to and from the airport when you book your ride online, and ExecuCar offers 150 miles for each direction.
Carmel car services focuses its offers in the New York area, and awards 50 miles for services inside New York and 100 outside the city. They also provide two miles for every dollar spent on trips booked online. Bandwagon, another New York branch, offers MileagePlus members savings on services from Newark International Airport.
Programs and statuses cannot be combined to earn more miles and points. Whichever membership or discount gives you more will apply to your booking. For more information on miles, offers, and discounts, or for problems and missing mileage, visit Hertz’s website or contact them directly.
